Come along and meet new people! Salle Ursa fencers are always up for socialising - well, life is not only about hard work and training, is it?!

Fencing tuition for beginners

Beginners can join our club on the first Wednesday of every month.

If you wish to take up fencing, send us an e-mail or simply come along to see us at one of our sessions. We will provide you with one-to-one intrduction to fencing so you can learn enough in 4 weeks to be able to join in with our main group sessions. If several beginners join at the same time, we do mini group lessons and add in exercises in pairs.

If you join us as a beginner, in 4 lessons (normally one session per week) you will learn all the essential skills that will help you get started safely on the piste.

Cost: £30 This includes tuition and use of fencing equipment.

To know more about getting started, please have a look at our Frequently Asked Questions section below:

What will I learn at Salle Ursa during the first 4 weeks?

Your six-week course will give you a good overview of the 3 weapons: foil, epee and sabre. You will learn how to move on the piste, using good footwork. We will introduce you to the conventions and rules of fencing. You will learn how to score hits and how to defend yourself. If there are several beginners learning together, we can organise a Beginners' Competition at the end of the 6th session, where you can try how it works what you learnt!

What should I wear for fencing?

All you need to bring with you are comfortable sports clothes: tracksuit bottoms, trainers and T-shirt. There is a changing room facility at the venue. All necessary fencing equipment (masks, jackets, weapons, gloves, etc.) is provided by Salle Ursa.

I am not very athletic, will I be able to cope?

Yes you will, don't worry! Our course will help you build up the muscles you need for fencing. Footwork, conditioning and stretching are part of the Beginners' Course.

Am I too young/too old for fencing?

Juniors can start fencing from the age of ten. For adults there is no upper age limit - you can start at any age!

How can I continue fencing after the Beginners' Course?

After completing the Beginners' Course you can join Salle Ursa as a regular member. You can use both venues, improve your knowledge with group work and individual lessons and you can enter competitions. You can read more details about Salle Ursa membership HERE.

How can I apply for the Beginners' Course?

To apply please contact us by e-mail: info@salleursafencing.co.uk or leave a voicemail message for the Secretary on 07906-607-692.
